This journey will take you to one of the most diverse spots in the world for cactus diversity. Participants are likely to discover over 100 species of Cactaceae, most of them in flower at the time we coordinate this tour. Besides cacti, the area we cover is rich in many other plants, including Tillandsia and other succulents.

The scenery is spectacular and diverse. This journey will also provide evidence of the importance of habitat knowledge in order to determine the validity of plant names and the issue “too many names for the same plant”. Diversity and variability of plants in habitat within populations and between populations will be examined. We will start our journey in Córdoba, at around 1,500 ft. and will visit some habitat reaching 12,000 ft. in the Andes.

Where, When, How much?

ARRIVAL / DEPARTURE

DATES: November 2020

Journey will start and end in Cordoba. Our itinerary will cover Central Argentina and we will loop through the Northwest, all the way to the border of Bolivia.

Because of long traveling time, I do recommend to arrive a day earlier. The city of Cordoba also has some nice history with many Jesuitical buildings and colonial churches

Things that would need to happen:

Flights will have to resume: At this point, borders are closed. Government has informed that flights will resume after September 1st.

Participants will be asked to self-quarantine for 14 days before the trip. Participants will be asked to take a Covid-19 test 1-2 days before the trip. I assume testing will become more accessible. There are even talks “home test kits”

Home country: I also feel quite at ease to be able to deal with any situation in my home country, if urgent attention is required. Argentina has been in strict lockdown / quarantine (possibly one of the strictest in the world!) and the number of cases has been kept extremely low (unlike Brazil, Peru, Ecuador, Chile). Some provinces, especially in the north where we are traveling, have reported no cases or just 1-2 (and yes, there has been plenty of testing)

The group will have little interaction outside our own. Only driver and I will basically interact with others, taking of course extreme precautions

I will also limit the number of participants to 10, that is if there are enough brave volunteers.

PRICE: $ 4350

Price: $ 4350., all-inclusive except air fare.  Single occupancy $ 550
