Sumatra
Pitcher plants, giant flowers and orchids!
Sumatra is home to what may be the greatest diversity of carnivorous pitcher plants (Nepenthes) on Earth, along with remarkable wildlife including tigers, rhinos, elephants, countless orchids, and some of the largest flowers in the world—such as Rafflesia and Amorphophallus.
This 15-day expedition invites you to explore and observe many of Sumatra’s most spectacular Nepenthes species in their natural habitats, while also showcasing the island’s rich biodiversity. The journey takes you through pristine lowland rainforests, cool misty cloud forests, and up the slopes of dormant volcanoes, offering rare opportunities to see these extraordinary plants where they naturally thrive. Along the way, you may encounter orangutans, several species of macaques, an impressive array of birdlife, exquisite Paphiopedilum and other orchids, and—if luck is on your side—the dramatic blooms of Rafflesia arnoldii and Amorphophallus titanum.
