Argentina North West

The Northwest - over 100 species of cacti!

This journey will take you to one of the most distinct regions in the world for cactus diversity. We will start our journey in Córdoba, at around 1,500 feet (450 m) and will visit some habitats reaching 12,000 feet (3650 m) in the Andes. The scenery is spectacular and diverse.

Participants are likely to discover over 100 species of Cactaceae, most of them in flower at the time we coordinate this tour. Besides cacti, the area we cover is rich in many other plants, including Tillandsia and other succulents.

This journey will also provide evidence of the importance of habitat knowledge in order to determine the validity of plant names and the common issue “too many names for the same plant”. Diversity and variability of plants in habitat within populations and between populations will be examined.
